I Thessalonians 4:16
For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command... and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Did you know that Muslims understand that Jesus will return on the Day of Judgment? Though their understanding is different than ours, it provides a starting point. Jesus often gets nearly forgotten by Muslims, as they attempt to follow the rules set out for them in the Qur’an. In the midst of it, they yearn for a day when the Almighty will set the world straight with perfect justice… and perfect judgment.

Pray that Muslims like the Luri people will honestly look to Jesus and yearn for the day of His return. Pray that they will follow Him and accept His sacrifice for their sins so that they won’t be found wanting on the Day of Judgment.

Luri People of Iran

“Your choice of this beautiful Luri carpet is highly commendable! It has thousands of tiny hand-knotted stitches. Look at the luster and fabulous colors in those geometric patterns. I know because I purchased this particular rug directly from a Luri weaver in Iran. He lives in a village near the beautiful Zagros Mountains.”
The Iranian salesman in Sweden was sharing with a woman after she had made a very expensive rug purchase. He continued, “The Luris write beautiful poetry and music. They are excellent horsemen. Look at this bronze horse. It is over 3,000 years old and comes from an ancient site in Lurestan. They are proud of their ancestry, and most of them speak their own language called Lurs. They will tell you they are not Persian or Kurd. Unfortunately they are not good at business, and many of them are in heavy debt to urban traders which cause them to lose their livestock.”
Ninety percent of the almost 5,000,000 Luri people in Iran are practicing Shi’ite Muslims. Most of the others adhere to various different forms of Islam. They believe that shrines dedicated to “holy men” possess healing powers. Consequently they visit these shrines once a year. Although they have access to Christian radio Bible programs in their language, there are no Bibles, missionaries, or fellowships among them.
