I Timothy 3:16
... [God] appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

Many scholars have identified this verse as part of an early Christian hymn or liturgy. This hymn is a good example of the missionary emphasis found throughout the worship of the early church: Christ was preached among the nations. Early Christians understood that they were given the task of reaching the nations. How clearly can we see God’s missionary heart in the worship of our churches today?

Pray that the Holy Spirit will give us a clearer vision of what He wants us to do to glorify Him among the nations. Pray that our worship will reflect His concerns.

Jiarong People of China

Bao Yu was confused by her son’s behavior since he returned from the lowlands. Their family lived for centuries along the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, tending yak and sheep, conversing in their own Jiarong language, and happily enjoying their widely-noted music and weaving.
“Da Zhong, what is the matter?” she questioned. The young teen’s expression was dour. “I want to go back to the valley. They have roads, electricity, and they have learned to speak Chinese so they can talk with others.” Bao Yu sputtered, “But we have our own language and customs. We are unique.” “No Mother, the government now says we are Tibetans. We can no longer be different from them.”
Bao Yu retreated to the small room at the back of her stone home to kneel before the gold-painted statue of Buddha. Tomorrow she would see the shaman to see if this confusion could be stopped.
Heartaches and problems are many for the 150,000 Jiarong speakers in China. Their culture is being absorbed by the Han Chinese. The Chinese have stopped logging in their homeland which has caused high unemployment. Downstream flooding has made life miserable.

Pray that Christ followers would take the peace that comes from Jesus to the Jiarongs during their painful time of transition. Pray that many Jiarongs will reach for the gospel and accept it hungrily. As their lives change forever in the temporal realm, pray that their lives would also change spiritually as they accept the Lord Jesus Christ.
