We should remember that Paul was a frontier missionary. His special commission from God was to establish communities of evangelizing Christians among cultural groups without any church. This was his mission as an apostle of Jesus Christ. Paul considered the basis of his ministry to be God’s concern for all nations, beginning with the Abrahamic Covenant and continuing on through Christ’s Great Commission and his own personal commission. Today we need many others to follow in Paul’s footsteps.
Pray for God to raise up people with the tenacity of Paul to establish His witness among the Maguindanao people.
A Maguindanao girl named Oma sat huddled along the edge of the overcrowded catamaran, which was buoyed by the swelling waters. The clothes on her back were soaking wet; the tears rolling down her face were veiled by the dampness of the rain on her olive skin. Was she shivering from the cold or from fear? Her father’s words as he helped her into the heaving catamaran rang in her ears and heightened her aloneness and fear. “Go on ahead with this man. Your mother and I will meet you at the evacuation center in Cagayan de Oro City.” As she looked at the cold, calculating eyes of this man, she realized that life was about to get much worse than it already was if she didn’t escape from him.
A spate of monsoon flooding last December has left Maguindanao villagers in the southern Philippine Island of Mindanao desperate. Thousands of Maguindanao people have thronged to over crowded evacuation centers. While trying to protect them against the elements and tackling the threat of outbreak of contagious diseases, aid organizations have to keep an eye on human traffickers who use difficult times like these to take advantage of the vulnerability of these evacuees (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/119161/maguindanao-villages-submerged-in-water-authorities).
Pray for the protection of weak and vulnerable members of the Maguindanao people as they face difficult times. Pray for them to encounter the One who is holy and just.
