Members of the unreached Li people group need the words of Christ to affect their daily lives. But many of them don’t have any of the Scriptures in their language! So what do they do? Usually they will have to use a Bible written in a foreign language, making the Bible appear foreign to them. Fortunately, there are gospel recordings in many of the Li languages. Unfortunately, they still wait for their own Bible translation.
Pray for Bible translations for each of the Li peoples of China. Pray for gospel recordings to be widely distributed to Li communities.
Their houses once looked like upside down boats. Bamboo poles made up the superstructure of each Li house. These houses had straw roofs and were low to the ground, the better to withstand the powerful typhoons that threaten Hainan Island each year. The Li lived in the interior mountains of the island, but were still vulnerable to typhoons and other storms. Over the centuries war has often visited this people group. The old people still worship nature spirits, but Communism is very strong among those who are younger.
The Li have lived on Hainan Island for over 2000 years. Before that they lived on the Chinese mainland not far from their current island home.
The Li people have faithfully fought in China’s wars since the 700s. During the 1940s this people group fought invading Japanese troops. A few years later Li soldiers helped the Communists defeat the Nationalists.
The Li people are in spiritual bondage; among them are very few known followers of Jesus Christ. This people group has no protection against the spiritual storms that life has thrown at them.
May the Li come to see Jesus Christ as the only protection against the spiritual typhoons that threaten their souls. Pray that God would open the hearts of the Li people to the message of salvation. Ask God to break the hold that atheism has on this people group.
