Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, gentleness and patience! Clothe is a verb. This action word means that people must be consumed by these virtuous, godly traits, and practice them regularly. But how will they do this without the work of the Holy Spirit? And how will they have the Holy Spirit unless they embrace Christ and His kingdom?
Pray that the few believers among the Tay people will be clothed with godly virtues so that others will be drawn to the throne of grace.
The unregistered house church made up of ethnic minorities gathered silently; they didn’t want to attract attention from the Vietnamese police. A Tay woman slipped in late. She was one of the few believers in her tribe. Only a few Tay can understand the languages on Christian radio broadcasts. She prayed that one day the Scriptures would come to her village in her own language. Sitting nearby was a man and his family. The family had received Christ after the man had returned from abroad. He had found out about Christ while working in South Korea. Later he convinced his family to dismantle the ancestral altars and follow Jesus. He was now concerned that his faith might lead him to prison.
Approximately 1.7 million Tay people live either in urban Vietnamese cities or northern villages. Although the Tay are Vietnam’s largest minority group, Tay villages typically remain small. Moats surround the fortified villages of about 20 houses and rice fields, evidence of how the Tay have endured political persecution for centuries. Several hundred years ago, they were allied with Thai tribes for safety. Their resulting nickname became Tho, but since it is considered derogatory, they prefer to be called Tay.
While the Tay have traditionally been animistic, most have integrated spirit and ancestor veneration with Buddhism. Only a few hundred Tay believers exist. Although no JESUS Film has been developed in their language, some gospel recordings are available for the Tay.
Pray for the Tay to embrace the promise of God’s love and protection.
