Colossians 1:18b
He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

The resurrection which Paul is speaking about is very foreign to Buddhist peoples who believe in reincarnation. Yet it is true that there will some day be a time when all come back from the dead, not into another life, but to be judged simply by whether or not they put their faith in the Son, who is the firstborn from among the dead.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will move among the Lao peoples and help them to see that there will be a day of judgment, and they must submit themselves to the Supreme One.

Lao People of Laos

by JR

This week we are finding out how widespread the Tai-Kedai language branch is. Not only are all the Thai languages of Thailand related to this language cluster, but so are the Lao languages of neighboring Laos. Lao has five major dialects which can be understood by one another.
There are over three million Lao people living in Laos, making up the majority of the population. Most of them live in rural areas, raising rice as their most important crop.
Laos is one of the very few remaining single-party Communist states. The economy of Laos has been moving in a more market-oriented direction since 1986. This has brought about remarkable results. They now have the goal of being removed from the UN’s List of Least Developed Countries by the year 2020. It looks as if this goal will probably be achieved.
The economy of Laos is improving, but the state of the church there isn’t. The dominant religion, Buddhism, has remained a strong, steady force in the lives of the Lao people and keeps the people from following Christ. It is estimated that less than five percent of the Lao people have any sort of relationship with Jesus Christ.

Pray that greater freedoms in Laos will lead to more people hearing the gospel and putting their faith in Christ alone. Pray that they will develop a hunger for God’s truth and purpose in their lives.
