Colossians 1:14
…in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Before we can inherit the kingdom of God, we must have our sins forgiven. Before we can be forgiven, we must repent. For Jesus said: “Repent, for the kingdom of God is near.” With forgiveness, we have redemption. That is what we are praying for the unreached people groups to enjoy now and in the life to come. But there is more for those who choose to follow Christ. By rising above our sin nature, we can thrive in whatever way God sees fit. He can transform our lives and our communities as people seek to obey Him.

Pray for many from the Southern Thai people to repent and enjoy the refreshment of having their sins forgiven. Pray for community transformation to come when the Southern Thai people submit to Christ.

Southern Thai People

“How long are we to live in such deprivation?” lamented the patriarch who had seen his father’s prosperous business torn down. “We lived comfortably and we seemed to get along well with everyone, but look at us now!” he sighed. “We have to defend ourselves from the army. I heard that by becoming part of the political system we could ensure that we are represented. I can only hope that things become better,” he conceded.
Sandwiched between Central Thailand and Malaysia, Southern Thailand is indeed a melting pot of different cultures and religions. Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims used to live together harmoniously. However, in the early 20th century ethnic Thais began a process of assimilation known as “Thaification.” This step away from the traditional “multi-cultural kingdom of Siam” resulted in the resentment of the people who were not ethnic Thais. This is one of the reasons for the current sectarian violence in the region.
The Southern Thai people are ethnically Thai, but many feel that they don’t belong with the Thai people who rule their lives from Bangkok. There is also much pressure for change coming from a Malay Muslim insurgency in their region.
