Colossians 1:10
And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way…

Most everyone wastes their lives pursuing things that aren’t worth pursuing. In this verse, Paul is praying for the Colossian believers to live a life worthy of Him. This verse is a reminder that our life’s goal is to please Christ in every way. What else can be this important? God may not be calling you to go to Thailand like McGilvary, but He has a calling for everyone who wants to live a life worthy of Him.

Pray that you will understand what God has called you to do.

Missionary Biography, Continued

by SP

In 1869 what is now northern Thailand was under the rule of feudal lords. Daniel McGilvary, his colleagues, and his Bangkok-born wife, Sophia, settled in the town of Chiang Mai. Through their labors six men believed in Jesus, including two prominent Buddhist monks, an officer who answered to the prince, and a local doctor. The missionary band rejoiced, but Prince Kawilorot, who held absolute authority in Chiang Mai, fumed. The prince continued to interact cordially with the missionaries, but secretly he ordered the arrest and execution of the Thai believers. To avoid an unpleasant confrontation during the arrests, the prince departed for a three-week fishing trip. While he was gone, employees of the missionaries fled, and two of the local brothers disappeared. Weeks later a frightened neighbor whispered the truth; the two men had been martyred by direct order of the prince. When the prince returned he claimed the men were executed for failing to fulfill a royal edict. With courage like Moses before Pharaoh, McGilvary said in the hearing of the royal court, “You have lied. These men died for no other reason than the fact that they were Christians.”
It appeared the work in Siam’s north would be closed, and then the unexpected happened. Prince Kawilorot soon became sick and died. The new prince was favorable toward God’s people; the gospel work could continue.
