Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Our sin has separated us from the Creator, resulting in eternal death. But eternal life is offered only through Christ Jesus! This eternal life is a free gift to all who will receive it. We must remember that it wasn’t free for Christ; it cost Him death on the cross! We must freely, willingly, and zealously offer God’s gift to unreached peoples like the Somalis. The great commission may cost us our money, our children, or our church leaders, but obedience is the only reasonable response to God’s gift.

Thank the Father for His gift of eternal life through Christ. Pray that He will raise up someone with the courage and selflessness to do whatever it takes to offer His gift to the unreached Somalis.

Somali Refugees in the U.K.

by PD

“It’s time that Somalians unpack their bags, settle down, and try to live as normal British people,” said Mr. Abdulkadir Gutaale, a long-standing Somali refugee living in London to a BBC News reporter (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7747162.stm).
Unemployment, poverty, and difficulties with integration are all serious problems facing Somalis in Britain, regardless of clan or class. Many Somali youth have complained about being humiliated by the police as terrorist suspects. Unfortunately some Somali youth have been involved in gangs. Even when they do have work, many Somalis send money back to the homeland and live in terrible conditions. They work hard, but never make any progress. Holding onto their old ways, limited in speaking the English language, often isolated from their families, and still absorbed in the traumas of Somalia - all have resulted in a difficult life for many Somalis in Britain. The Islamic centers offer very little help. The best help has come from successful Somali refugees who want to help their people adjust to their new lives.
With an estimated 108,000 Somali-born immigrants, the United Kingdom is probably home to the largest Somali community in Europe. Somalis have been in the U.K. for about 100 years, though the largest number began coming during the 1980s and 1990s. Somalis now make up one of the largest Muslim communities in the U.K.

Pray that godly followers of Christ will be used by the Holy Spirit to befriend individual refugees, and then introduce them to the true and living God who loves them.
