In a similar fashion, isn’t preoccupation with “our own kind of people” the norm today? Today the vast majority of full-time Christian workers are ministering to those of their own culture who are already at least nominal believers. Certainly these people need to hear the gospel clearly, as did the Jews of the first century. But how much more do those peoples who know only a shred of the truth deserve full-time workers! Let us rededicate ourselves to the task of telling the good news of Christ’s resurrection to those unreached peoples who have yet to hear.
Pray for YWAM workers who will reach out to all the visitors to London this summer during the Olympics.
“Let the little children come unto me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14). Jesus clearly pointed out the value of children. The Forever Team of YWAM Olympic Outreach has plans to mobilize children all over the United Kingdom to reach out to people from the nations during the London Olympics this summer. Helene Kittle, Youth and Children’s Coordinator for Forever, YWAM’s official outreach team says, “The United Kingdom has a rich missionary heritage, and this generation of children can build upon that heritage. The Olympics is a unique opportunity to do that.”
The team is working through churches and all kinds of mission teams to facilitate several projects. In one project they will be partnering with Scripture Union and Urban Saints to run six large holiday clubs. These mega clubs will run as normal in the mornings using Olympic-themed resources, and then in the afternoons the children will have workshops and training to prepare them to go out with YWAM mission teams to see what God can do through them. Another program, “Just Go,” includes a short training camp and trips to the Olympic cities to try different ways of sharing the love of Christ in various locations.
Pray that these efforts will prepare these children for greater mission efforts in the future. Pray that the Holy Spirit will give YWAM workers childlike faith as they reach out to the nations this summer.
