Acts 17:23
For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, ‘To an unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.

Whenever a follower of Christ encounters people from other cultures, the missionary must learn how to communicate with them in a way that they will understand. In this case, Paul used the Greek’s idea of an “unknown god” to present Christ. The Greeks understood Paul, though few embraced the gospel message. In today’s world people must use any number of ways to help people understand the gospel. Sometimes that involves finding a common interest like Bollywood movies as a starting point before introducing them to Jesus.

Pray for today’s missionaries to find creative ways to communicate the gospel in an understanding way.

South Asian Concern

by JS

It was a Bollywood musical event that drew more than 200 mainly Indian Sikhs and Hindus, along with a few Pakistani families, but it occurred at a church in London! With its large South Asian population, London churches have many opportunities to reach out to their neighbors.
South Asian Concern outreach activities vary widely from special Asian fellowships, to house to house visiting, to parent and toddler groups, to youth clubs, and to morning coffees and concerts. Many of these general outreach activities seem to be good bridge builders and a way of establishing friendships and gaining trust and respect in the South Asian communities.
Prayer for the outreach and for individuals is the common factor for success. One worker remarked, “People ask for prayer even if they don’t want to know about Christianity. We have lots of answered prayer. Then we tell our contacts who is answering our prayers. Trust deepens as they see the love of Jesus shared without any expectation. This leads to sharing about Jesus and His power.”

Pray for every South Asian community in London to have a witness of Christ’s love for them in their midst. Pray that South Asian Concern volunteers will be filled with the fruit of the Holy Spirit as they reach out to Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs in London.
