Though this section of Ezekiel is spoken to the children of Israel, these verses are also important for unreached peoples like the Jowulus. God the Father speaks of giving His Spirit, the same Holy Spirit that dwells in believers, to all who call on His Name. If they call on His Name, they will have life.
Pray for a spiritual “resurrection” for the Jowulu people of Mali that will result in eternal life!
In Ezekiel 37, the prophet saw a vision of dry bones coming together, receiving muscle and flesh, and then being given breath and returning to life by the power of the Lord. It is a picture of the dead coming back to life by the hand of the Lord Almighty. Many of the peoples we are praying for this month are familiar with the sight of bleached bones, but none of them know the One who can bring these bones to life.
Mali’s desert is a harsh, unyielding environment for anyone who dares to live there. Add to that poverty and locust plagues, and you have an idea of what life is often like for the Jowulu people. The Jowulus subsist on an income of about $250 a year. They attempt to raise crops as conditions allow in hopes of having enough food to eat.
In the midst of a Muslim country, the Jowulus are animistic in their religious belief system. This has caused them to be ostracized by their Muslim neighbors. Animism, like a desert, is quite inhospitable. There is never any assurance that you will be accepted by the gods you try so hard to please.
Pray for a spiritual breakthrough among the Jowulu. Pray that their spiritual eyes will be opened and that the dry bones will be brought to life.
