Such verses are hard for people to accept, especially those who live in places like Somalia where oppression is common. We have to ask ourselves, Can the Lord save those who are being oppressed and also those who are oppressing them? Yes, He can.
Pray for the Lord to deliver people like the Dabarres who desperately need freedom from Somalia’s militias. Pray also for the men who are going out and robbing and killing people, the militias in Somalia who desperately need the Lord. In some way send the Word to them, through radio or even some brave Christ followers.
Abid didn’t even have the strength to resist the flies that were swarming him as he sat on his haunches on the dirt watching the village chief. Abid scratched a deep groove in the dirt with a stick, trying to conceal the frustration that he and all his neighbors faced. These subsistence farmers had always responded to their chief’s beck and call anytime he needed them to work on what was once rich agricultural land. Cycles of drought and flooding added danger and poverty to their frustrating lives. Dodging Muslim insurgents interfered with their efforts to produce something useful from the land. He thought, why couldn’t these zealots do something constructive instead of stealing from others? Isn’t life hard enough already with the drought?
Mustering every last ounce of courage he had left, the chief finally announced to the farmers, “We will have to pack whatever we can carry and leave; we will not be able to provide for our families anymore if we continue to stay here.”
Not having eaten anything in the last three nights, Abid knew that he and his large brood would never be able to travel any distance much less to the nearest refugee camp.
Pray that the Dabarre people find food, shelter, and protection for their bodies. Pray that they will find the Savior who provides for this world and the next world.
