Daily Topic for December 05, 2011
This month we will be praying for people groups that have seemed almost beyond the reach of the gospel. Governments do their best to lock the gospel message out. Muslims commonly believe that the Bible has been corrupted, so it cannot be trusted. Yet we serve a God who is powerful enough to create the entire universe! And He wants people to repent and be saved.
Pray with confidence that the arm of the Lord will reach the Muslim people groups you pray for this month.
“The people demand the downfall of the regime!” is a chant that began in Tunisia in January. That chant has been echoing across the Middle East ever since, and some regimes have fallen. However, Algerian Arabs who are weary from years of civil war are tired of violence and have been more reluctant than their neighbors to demand a regime change. But they do seek greater freedom, reform, transparency, and accountability in government. Plaguing the country are the problems of high unemployment, lack of suitable housing, and the soaring cost of living. Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has recently lifted a two-decade state of emergency and has acted to curb price rises. He has promised political concessions.
Political unrest, conflict, and social ills are taking their toll on all Algerians. But, “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear” (Isaiah 59:1). God can save these precious people when they confess their sins and call on the name of the Lord. There has been a work of the Holy Spirit among the Berbers in Algeria, especially the Kabyle group, who have testified to supernatural revelations of the Lord. Such a work of the Holy Spirit has not yet reached Algeria’s Arab Muslim population.
Let us pray for this nucleus of believers among Algeria’s Berber population to sweep across their country and reach the Arab population.
