Jesus sometimes put his disciples in perilous situations… so it seemed. Knowing it wasn’t His time yet, Jesus could casually take a nap in the boat. Jesus knows when the time is right for us to die. Can we walk in faith throughout our lives, knowing that He is in charge?
Pray that the Lord will give so much faith in Christ to some from the Koli people that they will amaze their Muslim neighbors.
“Hurry! Khan has arrived! Splattered with mud and straw from brick-making, the thin, sun-beaten Koli farmers ran to meet their landlord. When the tall, heavy-set man stepped out of his new SUV, the men crowded around him. Bowing, they approached him in hopes of receiving more seed and the possibility of him releasing some of their debt. Frowning, the landlord waved them away. He turned to answer a question from a visiting aid worker about new land reform and relief for the farmers.
He said, “They’ve had enough relief! Some of the workers took off for the refugee camps and never came back to work. They owe me a lot of money, but they refuse to return. I gave my workers more than most landlords do so they could grow new crops, fix the irrigation, and rebuild their houses. Do they show gratitude? No! They still want me to forget what they owe me!”
There are about 36,000 Kolis living in Pakistan where they mainly work as farmers on land owned by others. The majority of Koli people live in India where their population is estimated at 12 million. It is unusual to find Hindus in Islamic Pakistan, but most of Pakistani Kolis are Hindu. This often leads to discrimination.
Pray that the Koli people will come to appreciate that Jesus paid their sin debt through His death on the cross so they can have eternal life in Heaven.
