Genesis 7:24
And waters flooded the earth for 150 days.

We know that at that time, God used a flood to destroy all who were not on the ark. Was the tragic flood in Pakistan last year part of God’s judgment? None of us know for sure, but we do know this: God is using His people as a healing balm for those who are suffering. And they have the opportunity to draw Pakistani Muslims to the Kingdom of God.

Pray for those working in Pakistan to be bold and loving as they demonstrate Christ’s character and act as His hands and feet in a suffering land.

Mallah People

by WK

Sahiba, a small girl from the Mallah tribe, sat in a tent with children of all ages. The tent served as the refugee camp’s only school. Many students sat at a table drawing pictures as teachers watched. Sahiba drew a picture of a girl running away from high flood waves. She was the only member of her family to reach the refugee camp. A tear ran down her cheek; she did not know if the rest of her family was alive or dead.
The floods affected 34 percent of the Mallah people group.
The Mallahs live in northeastern Pakistan near the border with India. This people group speaks a Bengali language, similar to languages spoken by people groups in Eastern India and Bangladesh. Few people groups speak a Bengali-based language in Pakistan.
The Mallah people are almost completely Muslim. There may not be any followers of Christ among them. In 2000 the New Testament was translated into their language, but much of the Old Testament has yet to be translated for them.

Ask God to send Christian relief workers and counselors to help the Mallah flood survivors. May the doors open for Christians to tell them about Jesus Christ, the only source of peace, comfort, and salvation. Pray that God would break the hold that Islam has on this people group. Ask God to send Christian teachers who will teach basic skills such as reading and computer skills. Illiteracy is a huge problem among the Mallah; pray for schools for their children.
