2 Timothy 3:15
…and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Have you considered what it might be like for peoples like the Western Ghao-Xong who do not have the Bible in their own language? Think of the help and comfort you receive daily from God’s Word—to say nothing of the most basic knowledge of new life in Jesus Christ.

Pray today for those who are struggling to make God’s Word clear and understandable in people groups where the knowledge of Christ has not broken through. Pray that soon the Western Ghao-Xong people will have His Word available to them through gospel recordings and through the JESUS Film.

Western Ghao-Xong (gaow-shong)

Legend says that centuries past the Ghao-Xong people lived by a river at the foot of steep mountains in western Hunan Province. Because the Qing Dynasty oppressed them so badly and for so long, the Ghao-Xongs finally rose up in rebellion. Two brothers, Yayi and Yanu, led the uprising. The Qing forces repressed their struggle for freedom. Yayi was killed; Yanu led the remnant further into the mountains. Every year on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month (approximately in June), the Western Ghao-Xong people celebrate a festival in honor of the brothers and their struggle for freedom.

In spite of a population of almost a million, this people group has no Scriptures, no JESUS Film, or gospel recordings in their mother tongue. Nearby groups have followers of Christ, but the Ghao-Xongs have such a long history of abuse by outsiders that they are difficult to access. They do not know that One greater than Yayi already died for their freedom from sin.
