Imagine what it must be like to spend your life appeasing a fear-driven spirit world like the Suoy people do. Wouldn’t you like nothing better than to give your devotion to a God who’s Name is great among all nations? He is also loving and gentle to those who are part of His family.
Pray that the Suoy people will soon understand that the gods they worship only stand in the way of them finding the True and Living God whose Name is great among every nation.

The Suoy youth had just finished their day’s work collecting bananas and resin from the jungle to supplement their family’s struggling rice farm. They discussed how tomorrow they would patrol the community’s property to guard it against illegal logging. Land-grabbing scams from agribusiness, illegal logging, and climate change are threatening the Suoy’s way of life. “We are some of the poorest people in the world, and now we’re going to be poorer still,” these subsistence farmers bemoan.
The Suoy people are among the most poor and despised people in Cambodia. With only 1,000 Suoy people remaining in the world, their culture is dying. Considered outsiders, they are ethnically distinct from the Khmer majority. Their youth strive to assimilate into Khmer society, speaking Khmer and dressing Western.
Unfortunately, access to Western clothes does not bring access to a saving knowledge of God. Without Scripture, a church, or workers to tell them, they put their hope in an animistic, fear-driven spirit world. The Suoys sacrifice offerings to appease the powerful spirits, for only a handful of them know about the loving, omnipotent God who created them.

Pray that He will conquer the spiritual darkness that convinces them they are poor and despised. Pray that He will give them dreams, visions, and a longing to know Him so they will be ready when someone comes to tell them the good news about the true and living God.
