Note the two facts especially relevant to the frontier mission movement: missionaries bring the fragrant gospel of Jesus Christ, and that message brings both life…and death! As workers fan out around the world into every unreached people group, a sweet spiritual fragrance is released! Many people will be attracted to the marvelous, compelling gospel, and will embrace new life. But to those who reject the message, there will be death.
Pray that the Somray people will reject the stench and decay of death in the spirit world, and embrace the aroma of life given to those who follow Christ.
Nima, a young Somray woman, held her throbbing head as she stumbled to the witchdoctor’s one-room leaf house. She would have to sacrifice to the powerful and now angry spirit, Neak Ta. She reminded herself that next time she must be more careful about following Neak Ta’s “rules” when collecting cardamom in the forest. She couldn’t afford to get lazy, and risk his wrath. She had to collect the precious spice to support her impoverished family, while her husband practiced subsistence rice farming. Perhaps if she worshiped Neak Ta better, she thought, he might hold back his rage against her extended family.
This woman’s Somray tribe is one of the poorest in the world. They are scattered in tiny pockets in Cambodia and Thailand. Looked down upon by the Khmer majority, the Somrays live in small, remote, isolated villages that are found in heavily forested areas west of the Mekong River. The 4300-member tribe remains in tremendous need. They are without education, health care, a Bible, a church, and anyone who can tell them the good news.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the Lord will reveal Himself to the Somray in such a way that they will know that He is loving, righteous, and all-powerful. The true God is far different from the evil spirits that torment them. Pray that spirit beings like Neak Ta will be discredited in the minds of the Somray people.
