Romans 2:24
God’s Name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.

In this rebuke of the Jews for their religious inconsistency, Paul makes reference to Isaiah 52:5 and Ezekiel 36:21-22. It was an old problem. The Jews, as God’s chosen people, had again and again violated the Law of God and lapsed into idolatry, immorality and economic oppression. The nations watched, and seeing Israel’s disobedience, blasphemed instead of praising the Lord’s Name. Today, the Lord’s Name is often blasphemed among many nations because of the behavior of Christians, and people they think are Christians in the West. Our attitudes and our use of wealth often inhibit or even destroy our witness in the world.

Pray for purity in the Church so that the Name of the Lord will be praised among the nations.

Muslim Malays in Houston

by WK

The young Malay man spent much time working on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. He had learned his trade while working on oil rigs off the coast of Indonesia’s many islands. As a child, growing up in Kuala Lumpur, he’d learned English, which meant he had few problems communicating with his American born coworkers. Since coming to the United States, he was shocked by the programs he saw on TV. He thought that sex and violence were sanctioned by Christianity since this is a “Christian” nation.

In recent years more and more Malaysian oil workers have obtained jobs with American oil companies and settled in Houston. Many oil companies have their headquarters in Houston. A Malay community is beginning to develop in that city. This community is still very new, mainly consisting of single people and a few families.

In Malaysia there are strict rules about witnessing to the Malay population. Though there are many followers of Christ in Malaysia, few would dare risk arrest. In Texas few believers are taking advantage of the opportunity to invite Muslim Malays to become part of Christ’s kingdom.

Ask God to raise up faithful workers to become friends with Malay Muslims in Houston and to invite them to become Christ’s disciples. Pray that God would break the hold that Islam has on this people group and replace it with a vibrant, joyous living faith in Jesus.
