In obedience Peter and John proclaimed the Lord’s salvation in Jerusalem. They were so bold that they were called before the religious council to defend their actions. What was their defense? Simply the Name of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, Peter insisted, “There is salvation in no one else! There is no other Name by which we must be saved.” Without salvation in the Name of the risen Jesus, the unreached peoples of the world have no hope for eternity.
Pray for an understanding among the various Gujarati peoples of what God revealed to Peter 2,000 years ago.
“My ancestors left India long ago,” Ali, a Gujarati Muslim explains. “We hardly think of ourselves as Indian now. We lived in Madagascar for centuries. We had many large jamaats (Shi’ite communities) there. When I came to Paris last year, the jamaat ‘adopted’ me.”
When Ali arrived in Paris, he immediately contacted a jamaat. They helped him find a job and met other immediate needs as he adjusted to life in France. While he studies at the university, his jamaat will continue to insure his well-being.
Most Gujaratis practice Hinduism, but about nine percent follow Islam, with the majority of those being Sunnis. Ali’s jamaat is part of the Shi’ite tradition. They have only two small jamaats in metropolitan Paris, but there are many others outside of France. They exist in Canada, England and Kenya. Wherever Gujarati Muslims migrate they form jamaats. These groups join regional federations with the purpose of promoting, “… the values and practices of the Islamic Shi’ite Ithna Asheri faith for the spiritual and material well being of humanity at large” (www.world-federation.org).Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move throughout each jamaat in such a way that these Muslims will seek and find the words of Isa to satisfy their spiritual needs. Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal our Lord in visions and dreams to both Gujarati Muslims and Hindus.
