Does this sound like a God who does not care about mankind? Doesn’t He, who sends us out to give His good news to every people group on earth, love each one of us? Yes, this is the same God who sent His Son to die on the cross 2,000 years ago, rise from the dead, and ascend to the Father in heaven. What an awesome Savior! Certainly our efforts to carry out the Great Commission cannot “pay” Him back for what He has done for us. But what we can do is to obey Him.
Pray that God will show you how He wants you to serve Him. Pray that this very month God will pay a visit to the lost Cham people.
The young man in Paris looks Asian, but he worships Allah. He bears his mother’s last name, for that is the custom of the Islamic Cham people group. In the days when Vietnam was a French colony, Vietnamese Buddhists hounded his ancestors out the country. In those days Muslims were not welcome in Vietnam so his family eventually settled in Paris.
In Paris this young man usually speaks French, not Cham. That’s because there are only 30 Cham people in Paris, and most of them are his relatives. Inside their homes, however, they speak Cham and practice their Islamic religion and culture. But outside their front door they live and act like the French majority.
The Cham people once ruled a flourishing kingdom in Southeast Asia. They were one of the few people groups in Vietnam to convert to Islam. Buddhist Vietnamese invaders conquered the Chams during the 15th century and began to persecute them. During the 1800s France took control of Vietnam, and the first Chams fled to Paris. There are no known followers of Christ within this people group.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Ask God to lead a mission agency to begin translating the Bible into the Cham language. Pray that God would break the hold that Islam has on this people group and give them a hunger for Christ’s righteousness. Pray that God would open doors for outreach for the small group of missionaries trying to reach the Cham in Paris for Christ.
