Matthew 18:3
…unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of God.

Jesus told those who were listening to Him that they needed to change. His disciples have been telling fallen humanity the same thing ever since we were given the Great Commission. Change is hard for people, especially those like the Fulbe peoples who have done things the same way for many years. But we must humble ourselves (vs. 4) and become teachable for the Great Teacher.

Pray that as nomadic Fulbe peoples like the Waalos are being forced to change their way of life, that they will become humble and teachable before the Lord of all so that they can inherit the Kingdom of God.

Waalo Fulbe People

by NW

There are people in our world who live their lives in predictability and steadfastness. Nothing changes in their lives. These types of people resist change. But change is sometimes forced on them.
The Waalo Fulbe people located in Senegal are this type of people. Most are nomadic or semi-nomadic. For centuries they have lived by herding their livestock and growing crops. The only changes that took place in their lives came when there was a drought or they were forced off the land.

For example, two dams were built in the 1980s on the Senegal River. The government’s reasoning for building the dams was that they would provide irrigation along the river for farming. Their next step was to promote rice as a major crop. Soon the land used by the Waalo Fulbe was taken over by wealthy farmers. This change required them to find other areas for their livestock and their crops. Their lives of predictability and steadfastness suddenly changed. They are still adjusting today.

Pray for God to send followers of Christ to the Waalo Fulbe and assist them in the area of agriculture. Pray that God would use this assistance to endear the Waalo Fulbe to Jesus Christ. Pray for the Holy Spirit to soften and break the hearts of the Waalo people so they can accept and embrace the ways of Jesus.
