Zechariah 7:9
This is what the Lord Almighty says, “Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.”

The Bagirmi Fulbe have a strong sense of justice. Where does it come from? Most likely, it came from the just and loving God who created them to worship Him! Though they value justice, they do not know the One who will some day administer justice to all the nations.

Pray that the Bagirmi Fulbe people will encounter and embrace the One who is just and merciful.

Bagirmi Fulbe of Chad

by PE

The Lord made the Bagirmis a beautiful people who love to live quietly in their family compounds among their vegetable gardens and cattle. The important qualities of their lives are respect, courtesy and justice. They strive daily to be generous, honest and reserved. They enjoy and appreciate beauty especially in their verbal art of poetry and song.

The 42,000 Bagirmi differ from the greater Fulbe people in that they have homes and only send the young married sons and their families to travel the grasslands with the cattle. They measure their wealth by the size of their cattle herds. Milk and cheese is a staple of their diet, supplemented with vegetables from their gardens.

Family is very important to them. Although 99.9 percent Islamic, the Bagirmis live as though there is no afterlife. If they have no children they feel that they have “died twice” and their name will no longer exist.

Pray that the Lord will grant wisdom and favor to the two mission agencies targeting the Bagirmis. Ask Him to send dedicated missionaries to live and work among them. Take spiritual authority over the principalities and powers binding them to a hopeless future. Ask God to raise up prayer teams to fervently intercede for the souls of the Bagirmi people. May many Bagirmi souls praise God together with us, thanking Him for salvation in Jesus Christ, both now and in eternity!
