Wisdom. This is what King Solomon is known for. It is also what the young South Asians are seeking when they come to a Café Desi event. What is the meaning of life? Whom do we look to for truth?
Pray for God to give both wisdom and discernment to the South Asians who attend these events.
The animated conversation over cups of chai (tea) in the small café in Covent Garden was a response to a speaker’s topic: understanding our personal identity. The location was London, but those gathered were South Asians who are part of the Indian Diaspora. The host for the evening was the organization, South Asian Concern, a small multi-racial partnership of Christ’s followers with a particular concern for and focus on South Asians around the world. South Asian Concern respects people of all faiths, and its activities include providing resources and training to help people build bridges of friendship and better understanding.
This is done in a number of ways. There are on-line studies, and there are social groups that meet for fellowship, discussions and tasty meals. Café Desi is the group that meets in Covent Garden. South Asian Concern rents out the café after closing time, so Café Desi is more of a network than a physical place. Small group discussion is a key part of many of their events. The aim of the Café is to be both fun and thought provoking. It is a great place to make friends and help people grow in their personal and professional lives. The group mainly focus on South Asians in their twenties and thirties, but it is open to everyone.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that non-believers will see the difference that Christ makes in the lives of Christ’s followers so that they will make that same commitment to Him.
