It is one thing for us to face ridicule as Christians; we are capable of gross errors. It is another thing to see our Lord ridiculed. But remember that the One who gave this command was being ridiculed. He expects us to obey His command to love our enemies, and pray for them.
Pray that the Punjabi believers will obey this command, and thus glorify His Name among their Hindu and Sikh neighbors.
India Gospel Outreach (IGO) formed an ambitious goal a few years ago: plant a church in each of Punjab’s zip codes. They have succeeded in doing just that through 1,100 men and women who have received training and gone out as evangelists, not only in Punjab, but also in Nepal and Bhutan. Most of these Punjabi evangelists are first generation believers from Sikh and Hindu backgrounds, making them especially effective in communicating the gospel to people who still belong to those religious traditions.
Just as in biblical times with early believers, signs and wonders accompany their ministry, showing evidence of Jesus’ power. Where God’s spirit is moving mightily, so is Satan’s effort to discredit and harass Christ’s followers. Radical Hindus recently erected a large billboard in Jallandhar, Punjab, showing a debauched Jesus holding a liquor bottle in one hand and a cigarette in the other. The purpose was meant to inflame Christians, as well as convey to non-Christians a false perception of the Savior. It did just that, resulting in clashes between Hindu fundamentalists and Christians. Four churches were burned, and the police imposed a strict curfew in most of the towns and cities of the Punjab.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will use this incident to bring many more people to Christ and to embolden His followers. Pray that each church in each zip code area will continue to plant new fellowships.
