1 Thessalonians 1:5
“…our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with deep conviction.”

Deep conviction! This is what the Alxa Mongols must have to remain faithful to Islam. They are standing alone among those who practice other religious faiths. Sometimes they are not accepted, even by other Mongol peoples. Only God’s Spirit, moving and working in the hearts of each people group, will draw them to the conviction that only Christ can save sinners.

Pray for the Alxa Mongols to soon have a deep conviction that Jesus is the only way, the only truth and the only light of the world.

Axla Mongols in China

by JR

Happy birthday! This is an epitaph you are not likely to hear coming from an Alxa Mongol home until the child is three years old. Why? They have suffered from a very high infant mortality rate for centuries. Why celebrate a child’s birth if he is not likely to survive? The Chinese government is not likely to impose the One Child rule on such a struggling ethnic group.

The Alxa Mongols are the only Mongol people group in China who have adhered to the tenets of Islam, and have done so for centuries. They are not simply folk followers of Islam, but rather are fervently dedicated to its teachings. Their commitment has remained unchanged, despite the atheism, Communism, and all other belief systems that have passed through China.

Alxa is their home in China. It was once the roaming area of nomadic peoples from 221 BC to AD 220. According to one scholar, the Alxa Mongols were originally part of the Jagatai khanate “who flourished during the Yuan period… They were converted to Islam, but were thereafter discriminated against by other Mongols… They were compelled to move eastward.” There are no known believers among this Muslim people group.
