What a beautiful paradox: make every effort to enter that rest. This verse simply summarizes the biblical balance between resting in God’s work and striving to accomplish God’s purposes. Any effort that is not based on a reliance on God’s work is vain and futile. Yet at the same time, we must not sit back complacently because of what God has already accomplished by creation and redemption. We must diligently labor while placing our confidence in God’s power working in and through us to accomplish the task before us.
Pray that you will work faithfully in prayer for the unreached, and that you will rest in the confidence that He will complete your work.
China’s One-Child Policy causes bitter resentment and even riots among the Zhuang people of Guangxi Province. In May of 2007, tens of thousands of people across four townships rioted and destroyed government buildings as officials retaliated with electric cattle prods, dogs, and guns, destroying farmhouses with sledge hammers, confiscating property with some value, and destroying the rest. Those who violate China’s One-Child Policy face stiff fines that are nearly impossible for poor farmers to ever pay. Seizure of property in lieu of payment of fines creates bitter resentment. The people are made even angrier because China’s policy is inconsistent—sometimes brutal and heavy-handed, and at other times it’s very lax permitting three or more children among ethnic minorities.
Female infanticide among the Zhuang people is widespread because when the daughter marries, she is obligated to care for her husband’s parents and not her own. Sons are preferred, because they are expected to care for their elderly parents.
The Zhuang people are hard to reach with the gospel because they are divided among a number of languages, clans, tribes, and cities. But fortunately there is a special prayer movement dedicated to seeing the gospel reach these people.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray for this prayer movement to open Zhuang hearts to Jesus Christ.
Pray that more Zhuang people will come to understand that God was willing to sacrifice His one and only child because He loves them!
