In today’s prayer entry, we read that Indonesian church planters are teaching the importance of faith in the Lord, obeying the Bible, and fellowship. Though doctrine is important, it is essential that people understand the purpose of a church.
Pray that new believers in Sumatra will quickly learn how to trust the Lord and obey, and they will put what they learn in church into practice in order to transform their communities for Christ’s glory.
Church Planting Movements (CPMs) happen when new indigenous churches are planted, and they rapidly start other new churches. In the last few years, we have seen the beginnings of more than 10 CPMs in other parts of Indonesia, but none yet on Sumatra.
In order to see CPMs spread over Sumatra, believers must catch a vision for each unreached people group on the island. Existing believers need to be trained in such a way that they will put aside their own traditions to make room for others to follow Christ within their own cultures. Church planters must intentionally search until they find a spiritually open family or community of non-believers, and share Christ with them. This follows Jesus’ pattern in Luke 9 and 10. Then they must lead this group in a process of discovering who God is, and how Jesus is the only Redeemer.
Once they have chosen to follow Jesus, a fellowship can begin where people meet together to worship and learn from the Word of God. These new churches must emphasize faith in the Lord and obedience to God’s Word. They must learn to apply His Word to their lives. Immediately the believers should discover what the Scripture teaches about fellowship and obedience. As the believers are learning, they share with other families or groups in their communities that do not yet know Christ. When some of these people become believers, the process starts again as new fellowships form.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray for the Lord to arrange for church planting movements among every unreached people group in Sumatra.
