Luke 24:26
Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter His glory?

One of the things we so often forget is that before there is glory, there is often suffering. We know that, like Christ, many of His servants are suffering in places like North Korea and Vietnam for their faith. In many cases throughout Church history, the suffering of the saints has led to repentance and the extension of His Kingdom. You have heard it said that the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church. This fact is so difficult but so true in our fallen world!

Pray that the suffering of Vietnamese believers will not go to waste. May it result in a full harvest among this people group in Vietnam and in Germany.

The middle-aged father woke from a nightmare in the bedroom of his Berlin apartment. His wife also awoke. “What’s wrong, honey?” she asked, brushing a strand of hair from her eyes. “I had another nightmare about that terrible day in Rostock, back in 1992.”

That was the year German skinheads started a riot. Their first targets were Gypsies. But as the riot spread, the skinheads set fire to apartment buildings inhabited by Vietnamese immigrants. Many were forced to flee for their lives, and some of these people now live in Berlin.

The Vietnamese arrived in Germany in two waves. One group settled in West Germany after South Vietnam was conquered by the North Vietnamese Communists in 1975. A second group had arrived in East Germany to attend college during the 70s and 80s. Many of these students were stranded in Germany after the collapse of Communism in 1989. The government that had given them permission to study in Germany had ceased to exist. In recent years skinheads and other racists who seek to rid Germany of all immigrants targeted both groups of Vietnamese.

Ask God to end racism in Germany. Pray that German Christians will set an example by reaching out with love to their Vietnamese neighbors. May such love open doors to witness to this people group. Pray that God would raise up the right people to take the message of salvation to this people group.
