Luke 5:5
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets.”

Can you relate to what Simon Peter was saying here? I’m sure that many missionaries can. There are times when it really doesn’t seem that the fields are ripe for the harvest, but instead, we are wasting our time. Years may go by before someone working among an unreached people group might see visible fruit from their work. Experienced missionaries tell us that it sometimes takes more than 15 years to plant a church among an unreached people group! Sometimes the Lord is waiting for one more attempt or one more prayer before He begins to pour out His Spirit. Are you willing to let down the nets one more time?

Pray that missionaries among the unreached peoples will not grow weary, but will persevere.

Lezgian of Russia

by PE

Anya’s fingers flew as she laughed and chattered with the women of the weaving house. Known for their beautiful woven carpets, the 400,000 Lezgians are settled in the stunning Caucasus Mountains between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Anya called out the door as she continued her weaving. “Son, stop playing and watch the goats more carefully!”
Goats provide Lezgian families with meat and milk. A few cabbages, potatoes, and melons round out their diet.

Anya waved as her husband galloped by on a beautiful black stallion. The other women murmured in admiration for the horsemanship the Lezgian man demonstrated so aptly just outside their door.
Anya’s ancestors were completely converted to Islam in the 18th century, but have maintained many of the animistic practices blended into their worship. For instance, the Islamic term “Allah” means different things to different Lezgian people. To some, “Allah” refers to their ancient pagan gods. They also regard animal bones as sacred, containing magical powers and healing ability.

Pray that God will encourage and guard the safety of the handful of Lezgian believers and fill them with the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Ask God to make global recordings and Christian radio broadcasts easily available to the precious Lezgian people in their language. Pray for the Holy Spirit to flood their land with the knowledge of Christ.
