The Tukulor people are not the most devout Muslims on the planet, but they sincerely believe that an Islamic education is best for their children. Tukulor parents are trying to “train a child in the way they should go.” What happens when parents teach their children a way that differs from God’s best?
Pray for Tukulor parents to find that Christ is the only way for their children to go, and send them to Him instead of to Islamic teachers.

Near the largest hut of the village stood the only school the Tukulor boy has known. Here they only taught one subject: the Qu’ran. “If Allah is God then why does he only speak Arabic?” he asked. Startled by the question, the teacher paused from the lesson he was teaching. “Arabic is the holy language. Why would Allah want to speak anything else?” The boy wasn’t satisfied with the answer, but sensed that the teacher was upset by his question, so he let the matter drop. He wondered if there was a God who spoke his language.
Most of the Tukulor people group lives in the dry grasslands of Mauritania and Senegal. The few government schools in the area teach their courses in French, a trade language few Tukulor people understand. The only other schools in the area are Islamic seminaries that offer no vocational training. Without job skills the Tukulors are trapped in a multi-generational cycle of poverty. Most Tukulors are Muslims. In 30 years Christian missionaries have led only 18 people to the Lord, according to Commission magazine.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God would raise up missionary teachers who would start schools that would teach both job skills and the message of salvation in the Tukulor language; that God would lift this people group out of physical and spiritual poverty.
