Zeph. 3:9
Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the Name of the Lord and serve Him shoulder to shoulder.

We are already witnessing the first fruits of this promise. African believers commonly spend all night in prayer and worship. Two-thirds World brothers and sisters now serve shoulder-to-shoulder with missionaries from Western nations. Concerts of prayer for world evangelization have begun around the globe. More people use this Prayer Digest in Chinese, Korean and Spanish than in English. These encouraging signs are but a glimpse of the day in which all peoples will be represented in the service of praise at the marriage supper of the Lamb.

Pray that the Father will fulfill these beginnings until the day we sing His praises in absolute purity and harmony. Thank Him for what He is doing in all the earth.

Mary Slessor - Missionary Biography, 3 of 3

by Keith Carey

In the early years of her ministry, Slessor worked within mission stations. She had a special burden for the children. She made sure there was a hospital and a church building, but also a school and an orphanage.

But her heart was always set on reaching those in the most remote and unreached parts. Few if any other missionaries were willing to go, especially since it meant added dangers like contracting tropical diseases without medical facilities. By living with the local people, Slessor learned the language far better than she would have had she lived in the mission station. Just as important, her bond with the people was much stronger, since she lived among them.

As they watched how Slessor lived and heard the wisdom she offered from God’s Word, village leaders began to accept the God she loved. Eventually there were hundreds of Africans who attended her church services.

For generations, European traders and colonizers had tried to make the people of Calabar change. None succeeded. But by allowing the Holy Spirit to transform the people of Calabar just as He had transformed the Scots hundreds of years earlier, communities were transformed. Today, Nigeria is a leading nation for sending missionaries, not only to the rest of Africa, but also to Europe, where the Church is faltering. Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the Name of the Lord and serve Him shoulder to shoulder.
