Song of Solomon 6:3
I am my lover's and my lover is mine.

When we gaze upon the beauty of our Savior, who loves us with an everlasting love, the significance of Solomon’s words comes home to us: He is ours and we are His. He claimed us as His “bride” before we claimed Him as our “groom.” We did not choose Him, but He chose us and loved us, and then set us free to love Him in return. His love has overcome the resistance of thousands of people groups throughout human history. He is persistent in His desire to have some from every nation willingly join His kingdom.

Pray that this very year, some from the Shirazi people will respond to our Savior’s tenacious love and willingly join themselves to Him.

Muslim Shirazi People

by KC

It was the year 975, and a Persian prince had a dream that would change the course of Tanzanian history. In the dream, a giant rat with jaws of iron was devouring the foundation of his palace. His interpretation? Evil was about to destroy him, and it was time to move on! Together with his family and close associates, Prince Ali ben Sultan Hasan hastily attempted to navigate their escape through a violent storm. The effort resulted in seven boats landing in seven different locations, one of which was Zanzibar and another Tumbatu, two islands off the coast of modern Tanzania. Life surely would have been easier had the prince not eaten too much baklava!

These Persian settlers were the progeny of the Muslim Shirazi people. Their troubles were far from over. They were attacked some time in the 1300s, and all that was left were ruins. But these resilient people survived, and today there are 613,000 of them in Tanzania. They still practice Islam. Only about one in 1,000 of them have put their faith in Christ.

Pray for a movement of the Holy Spirit in Zanzibar and other Muslim regions of Tanzania that will lead the Shirazis and other Islamic ethnic groups to put their faith in Christ alone. Pray that Shirazi leaders will have dreams and visions that will inspire them to seek out and embrace Jesus as lord.
