Psalms 105:1
"Give thanks to the Lord, call upon His Name; make known among the nations what He has done."

If you want to know what God has done, read the Bible through! Next, reflect upon His creation surrounding you. Then look at history, and see His hand moving upon men and nations to fulfill His purposes. Read books and periodicals to marvel at those new things He is revealing to men from His treasures of wisdom. Finally, search your heart and meditate upon His work in you. You should find within yourself a threefold response to what you have seen and learned-the same threefold response the psalmist gave: gratitude, prayer, and a passion that these things be proclaimed to all.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will grant gratitude and faithfulness to Christ among the Muslim Hui migrants in Saudi Arabia.

Hui Muslims in Saudi Arabia

The Hui father and son are excited! They are about to depart for their first Haj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca, Islam’s holy city, joining Muslims from all over the world. The Hui Chinese are similar to the Han Chinese whom we prayed for yesterday. Their culture, traditions and clothing are similar. But as Muslims they believe in the five pillars of Islam, one of which is to make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime if they can afford it.

Approximately 10,000 Chinese Muslims made the pilgrimage in 2008, along with about three million other Muslims. The Haj is meant to symbolize the essential concepts of Islam, to commemorate the trials of their Prophet Mohammed, and to demonstrate worldwide Muslim unity. It consists of seven rituals. Pilgrims circle a large monument, counter-clockwise, seven times. They must kiss the monument if possible. They must run or walk between two special hills seven times. They must participate in a stone-throwing ceremony armed with seven pebbles, to symbolize defiance of the devil. They are required to spend an afternoon near a hill where Mohammad gave his last sermon, or else the entire Haj is invalidated. All of these things must be done in a certain order in precise locations during a designated eight-day period each year.
