Again we can see God’s focus on the insignificant and weak people of society. God determined to first send His angels to these humble shepherds in the fields rather than to reveal His glory to the proud religious leaders in the Temple. Pray that the Father will help us to expect great things from Him as we attempt great things for Him. Pray that the gospel will reach the Sikhs in Saudi Arabia as it has in India.
Do you know anyone who excels in any job they take? There are some people groups that seem to do just that. One of these is the Punjabi Sikhs. Throughout South Asian history they have been the best soldiers and farmers. They also excel as mechanics, construction workers and business professionals. Today many of them have gone to different parts of the world to work.
One of these countries is Saudi Arabia. One Sikh leader reports that 40,000 Sikhs work there. Though the Saudis covet the skills they bring, Sikhs are not well accepted in this strict Muslim country. Sikhism combines elements of Islam and Hinduism. Sikhs are expected to always wear their turbans in public and to never cut their hair. One news article reports several complaints of harassments of Sikhs in Saudi Arabia. One Sikh physician working there was told to remove his turban and cut his hair. This demand enraged leaders of the Sikhs’ highest administrative body, and 400 Sikhs shouted slogans against Saudi Arabia from the safety of their home in India. No one would get away with this in Saudi Arabia, not even the Punjabi Sikhs, who are noted for their ability to fight those who oppress them.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
