Matt: 1:23
"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel, which means, 'God with us.'"

It is very easy to focus on our disagreements with Muslim theology. But if we are going to reach them for Christ, we must start with areas where we agree. One of them is concerning the virgin birth of Jesus. It would be possible for those who put their faith in Him to celebrate Christmas. Wouldn’t Muslims understand that the birth of a great prophet is cause for celebration?

Pray for God to give discernment to today’s workers in sensitive places like the Arabian Peninsula so they can establish credibility by pointing out areas of agreement. Pray that Saudi Arabs will realize that by its nature, the virgin birth puts Jesus in a special position that they cannot continue to ignore.

Tihami People in Saudi Arabia

One might think the brightly garbed man was from the South Pacific with his colorful sarong and fragrant herbs and flowers in his hair. The colorfully clad Yemeni Tihami men of Saudi Arabia are a sharp contrast to the traditionally white-robed majority. The Tihami people mainly live in Yemen, but about 115,000 live in southern Saudi Arabia. Their dialect reflects their ancient origins with classical elements no longer common in mainstream Arabic.

The Tihamis are fiercely independent, shunning modern ways, preferring to follow their own rich heritage as demonstrated in their dress, housing, daily lives, and celebrations. Because of the ring of sweet smelling herbs the men wear, they are often referred to as “flower men.” Marriage comes early, and families are large due to their great love of children. Celebrations are elaborate involving a lot of dancing and music. Their folklore dances are just one demonstration of their dedication to maintain and preserve their ancestral traditions. The Tihami people are nomadic, and they have resisted efforts by the Saudi Arabian government to settle them into permanent homes and cities.

Pray for the wide distribution of gospel recordings that are available in several Tihami sub-dialects. Pray that those sharing the gospel with them might be anointed by the Holy Spirit to make a strong spiritual connection with the Tihamis.-JS
