This certainly seemed like a strange formula for victory. Usually the men would simply go to the battlefield and fight. So it is when we take the gospel to the peoples of the world. Sometimes God will move in unusual ways to bring sinners to repentance and faith. At other times His messengers must work for decades before seeing fruit from their labors. It may appear that God will use medical workers or the JESUS Film to reach the Aguiri people. But He might do something else that will surprise us all.
Pray for God to show workers how He wants them to reach the Aguri people.
The Aguiri people of Bangladesh have been used in war, but they are searching for peace. The Aguiris were brought by the king of Burdawan Mehtha from Agara to Bengal. Why? The king intended to use these war-like people to fight the British. Hindu texts say that the Aguiri people have a well-earned reputation for cruelty, and some say they are hostile by nature. This is not entirely accurate.
The Aguiri ethnic group is divided into two castes. The upper caste is allowed to own land and the lower caste is expected to farm the land and tend the livestock. Many of the young people have fled the caste system in South Asia and have migrated as far as New York City.
God is making it very easy to reach these people for Christ. Some of them have come to America where local ministries can reach them. They have shown an incredible interest in the JESUS Film, and some have already come to Christ. Some challenges remain. They still worship Shiva the goddess of destruction. Those who live in India and Bangladesh desperately need medical facilities, clean water and access to schools. Many of these facilities are about 20 miles away over roads that become impassible with foot-deep mud during the monsoon season.
