It is very easy for people who claim royal pedigree like the Rajbansis to think that God is on their side, or they are somehow superior to their neighbors. God is not for one people or against another. He is only for His purposes among all the peoples of the earth. And He loves all peoples, from the most powerful to the lowest.
Pray that God will help us to pray for the Rajbangsi people of Bangladesh from His perspective - as peoples who desperately need to hear and to receive the gospel.
Rajbangsi people believe they are royalty, but they don’t know Jesus the King! Paul was deeply concerned about reaching the Corinthians. “How I wish that you really had become kings so that we might become kings with you!” (1 Corinthians 4:8, NIV). Paul might have said the same thing about the Rajbangsis. Their name means “royal community.”
They are descended from the ancient Koch kingdom, and their homelands include West Bengal and other India states near Bangladesh. They have migrated to many other parts of the world, especially Nepal and Bangladesh. The Rajbangsis number about 3,000,000 people who speak a more or less common language. They are a matriarchal (female dominated) society. Their economy is primarily agricultural, and they are known for their beautiful and intricate weaving and embroidery which they sell each week at the local markets.
Their religious beliefs include an interesting mix of Hinduism, animism and even Islam. Hinduism has divided them into 12 castes. Like animists, they worship the spirits of mountains, forests, and rivers. However, education has led some of them to abandon animism. Islamic armies drove them into the hills in the 1600s, although they have since migrated back to the plains. There are only a few followers of Christ among them, and they have no Scriptures.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will send Christian schoolteachers among them who will draw them to Jesus. Pray that God’s Word will soon become widely available and accepted in their communities.-CH
