Joshua 1:2
"Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River."

What fearsome words: Moses is dead. Moses was the man through whom God had done great and mighty works in Egypt and in the wilderness. Joshua, to whom God spoke these words, had been simply an assistant, and now he was to lead the Israelites. Today, our generation stands in awe of the missionary giants of previous eras. William Carey, Hudson Taylor, Cameron Townsend, Donald McGavran, and Ralph Winter are no longer walking among us. Nevertheless, God’s challenge to us today rings as clear and sure as this word to Joshua centuries ago: Get ready to move! Thus the torch of responsibility passes from generation to generation. Are you ready to take the torch?

Pray for His anointing for those who will take the torch and reach Bangladesh for His Kingdom.

Hajam People

They appear when a child is born, just before a circumcision, and at weddings. Wearing colorful costumes, singing and dancing, they often act drunk and ask for money during their comedy acts. But villagers are not surprised or offended by the behavior of these visitors. Known as shongs (jesters), they are a popular part of the Hajam people group’s culture.

While the antics of the shongs are entertaining, they also perform the more serious task of teaching Islamic beliefs through rituals and ceremonies, according to a March 3, 2007 article in Star Insight. In what might be compared to America’s Halloween, the Hajams have found a way to celebrate, laugh, and, in the case of the jesters themselves, make money within the strict confines of Islam.

Imagine how these festive people would celebrate if they were introduced to their Redeemer. Imagine the songs and dances they might create to celebrate salvation and eternal life found in Christ. For now, we can only imagine because there are no known believers among the Hajams and no missions agencies focused on reaching them.
