We often remember the all-out assaults on the Canaanite peoples, but forget the mercy that God demanded of His children. In this situation, after the Israelites had conquered a Canaanite nation, they were expected to show mercy, not brutality, to the women they captured. Even a small amount of mercy for captive people was unheard of in those days. In today’s world, the women of Bangladesh are often mistreated, even by their husbands, whom God has commanded to love them.
Pray for merciful treatment for the women of Bangladesh. Pray that husbands in Bangladesh will heed God’s word to love their wives, and lay down their lives for them.
The word “Ansari” means “friend indeed” or “one who helps.” Those familiar with the people group bearing this name testify to its accuracy. The Ansaris of Bangladesh have a reputation for being both friendly and kind.
They are also famous for their artistic talents. This has ensured their survival. Despite the fact that the l.2 million Ansaris living in Bangladesh are followers of Islam, their status in society is dictated by centuries of contact with Hindu caste. According to this oppressive system, they are “low caste” and therefore relegated to menial labor. Their tradition of craftsmanship in handmade paper, soap and weaving, however, has enabled them to rise above this limitation. As artisans, the Ansaris are able to provide for their families, afford healthcare and educate their children.
Spiritually speaking, these “friends indeed” are truly “friends in need.” While the Bible was made available in their heart language in the year 2000, there are currently no known church planting teams working among the Ansaris in Bangladesh and no known believers.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray for this unreached people group to be made aware that the God who created the universe desires to be their friend. Ask the Lord to dispatch workers who will faithfully introduce the Ansari people in Bangladesh to the only One who can forgive sin, Jesus Christ. Pray that soon Ansari people will gladly bear the Name of Jesus.-CL
