Good question! The answer is obvious: no other nation could make that claim like the children of Israel. As the world’s most prominent Muslims, the Arabs acknowledge that there is a God of Creation, but instead of seeking a personal relationship with Him, they have settled for bargaining with Him and seeking geo-political power as their highest calling. That isn’t good enough! They need God to be with them!
Pray that the Arabs will understand that they can have a personal relationship with the God who is near. Pray that they will stream to Him by the thousands, in Bangladesh and beyond.
The word “Arab” once brought to mind white-robed Bedouins riding on camels across the Arabian desert, but today only five percent of the Arabs live as desert shepherds. With the advent of Islam, many Arabs quickly became traders throughout much of the world. Long before the Muslim conquest in Bengal, Arab merchants began visiting the Bengali port of Chittagong by sea, for the purpose of maritime trade. There are several references to Arab Muslim settlers in the coastal regions of Chittagong from the 8th century onward. The Arabs inter-mixed with the local people, and in so doing blended in with the Bengali population.
Today, Arab traditional values have been altered due to the pressure to urbanize and industrialize. The world now lives in an age of globalization, and that includes the Arabs, who ironically were an integral part of globalization during the early centuries of Islam. Urbanization has helped create a new middle class of which the Arabs in Bangladesh are a part. Greater job opportunities and urbanization have greatly aided their poor living conditions. However city life has weakened traditional family ties among the Arabs in Bangladesh. Like the Bangladeshi majority, the Arabs cling to Islam as their only hope in a rapidly changing world.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray God will put down the spiritual principalities and powers that have kept the Muslim Arabs from embracing Jesus, the only One Who is the “Way, the Truth and the Life.”-MH
