All over the world thousands of tribal peoples trace their origin to the aftermath of a great flood. In fact, most of these peoples have elements of the story contained in Genesis chapter 1-11. These are the universal portions of Scripture which every people has in their own history, and which many have preserved in what theologians call historical revelation. This is important because every people has an understanding of the righteousness and the justice of God. They know of His judgments, but most have forgotten of his love. That’s what was so unique about the special revelation Jesus brought: He revealed the fullness of the Triune God. Our Creator is a judge, but He is also our comforter, healer, savior, and redeemer.
Pray that the Pan people of Orissa will understand and experience Christ’s love and comfort.
The two young Hindu Kui Samaj men were shouting now, inciting their people who had gathered around to take up their demands to deny any privileges to the Pan people. After all, the Pans are Dalits, and therefore beneath caste Hindus. A few of the Pans are even Christians. The Kuis resent any Pan who would try to receive benefits, even though most Pans are living in severe poverty. Their literacy rate is only 22.8 percent.
The Pans’ traditional and primary occupation is to serve the land holding communities, although a few of them are engaged in cultivation, as daily wage laborers, and a few in private businesses.
One mission organization is preparing numerous Bible stories to share with Dalit groups like the Pans because young and old alike will listen to a good story. Another help is through films on the life of Christ. Still another mission organization is giving out free radios, pre-tuned to Christian programs. Several charitable groups have made efforts to help Pan communities with health care and medical related problems.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will send more Christian workers to meet physical needs as an opening for sharing the love of Christ. Pray that more Pan communities will have opportunities to hear the gospel in various ways. Pray that they will open their hearts to the Savior, with whom there is no caste distinction.-MH
