Gen 1:31
"God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."

That God created the world in perfection is a foundational truth in Scripture. There is something about the beauty we find in creation that tells us there must be something deeper behind it. The incredible creativity we find in the universe gives us a clue that the place from which it came must be more beautiful still. What is more, God designed us with the capacity to appreciate that beauty. This alone should tell us we are not here by accident, nor is the universe. Unfortunately, Satan has sought to distort our interpretation of this powerful revelation by turning our natural awe of what God has made into idolatry.

Pray that the Brahmins might rediscover the glory of God in all that He has made, and worship Him with all their hearts. Pray that as leaders in Hindu communities, they will teach others to do the same.

Work among Brahmins in Orissa

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:10, NIV).

The coastal state of Orissa, India boasts a 3,000 year written history. This state is home to one of the most revered Hindu temples in India, the Konark Sun Temple, which is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Orissa’s forests are vast, covering some 33 per cent of the land area. Nearly 37 million people live in this state, with close to half that number living below the poverty line.

For several years, the Christian population has been undergoing serious persecution. Comprising only about five per cent of Orissa’s population, they are an easy target.

In the face of such opposition, one particular ministry is focusing on high caste Brahmins. These Brahmins form a small portion of the population, but one that dominates politics, media, banks, and business. They also dominate the militant faction of Hinduism, to which can be traced much of the persecution. There are efforts to reach these devout Hindus with the gospel, and there are encouraging signs. This year believers hope to see as many as 10,000 Brahmins put their faith in Christ and begin to follow Him.
