The book of Revelation fittingly ties up all the loose ends unraveled in the book of Genesis. But there is great progress as well as restoration. God began with a beautiful garden; He closes the scene with a glorious city. He started with a tree of life; now we see an abundance of fruit-a new crop every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Those groups that have suffered ruin because of sin will find healing and wholeness because of the work of Christ.
Pray for the Brahmins that are so spiritually broken and bruised. Pray for healing of the Brahmins who still don’t know their savior.
Cameras clicked as the puppets bopped around on stage to entertain tourists. To the puppeteers, it was a way to make a living and to tell of their ancient culture of northern India. Three hundred miles to the east, a man is searching the Internet for information on genealogies for a client. Both of these are Bhats, (pronounced “bahts”) one of the Brahmin communities.
Bhatt or Bhat is also a common surname throughout India. Some four different kinds of Brahmins may use the surname Bhat, among them Avdichya and Bhattmewadas. Technically, the term Bhat refers to one who has learned all four Vedic hymn collections of the Hindu scriptures, the Vedas. Hence “bhat” may be translated “priest” or “scholar.”
Though they were originally genealogists, oral chroniclers and bards, today a number of Bhats are puppeteers who entertain tourists in India’s western state of Rajasthan. Bhats may also engage in trade, civil service, and the professions. Of some 1.2 million Bhats, 90 percent are Hindu, and 10 percent are Muslim. There are no known followers of Jesus among them.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will raise up witnesses to this people. Pray that their names will be found in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Pray that the Bhats of South Asia will become curious about Jesus and His life. Pray that they would read His story in the gospels and become His followers. Pray that they will soon become scholars of the Word, telling His story throughout India.-TP
