In other parts of Scripture, we read that the Word of God is equated with a sword. Now this sword is ready to strike down the nations that rejected their King, and the winepress of His wrath is ready. The Bania people have not shown much receptivity to the ways of Christ. Perhaps this is because most of His ambassadors come from lower castes.
Pray that God will move among higher caste peoples like the Banias so that they can receive mercy from the wrath of God Almighty on the final day.
The Bania (pronounced Bunyah) are a merchant class of people who live throughout India, including the regions near the Ganges River. This people group consists of divisions and sub-divisions, with many alternate names based on the places from which they have come. The Joshua Project lists 29 Bania subgroups.
Nearly all Bania peoples claim the Hindu religion, but as merchants they have chosen gods that reflect their profession. They worship the god of wealth, the god of good fortune and the god of money. These are the gods who drive their lives, gods that leave them with empty hearts. To the Bania groups, everything depends on acquiring wealth.
The Bania peoples are identified with the caste of bankers, moneylenders and dealers in spices and groceries. Hindus with wealth and social stature like the Banias rarely embrace Jesus as their Savior.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will give Banias dissatisfaction with their spiritual lives. Pray that the veil of deception will be lifted from the eyes of the more than 27,000,000 Bania people so that they will understand that the only true wealth is the spiritual riches gained by receiving Christ as Savior and Lord. Pray that dedicated workers will be called to work among them, sharing Christ and encouraging them to accept the Holy Spirit’s call to Himself.-MH
