Notice that the golden bowls in Rev. 5:8 contained the prayers of the saints. This time, those same bowls contain the wrath of God. The Sonar people of India are goldsmiths who are very familiar with methods of separating the gold from the impurities. They need to know that their impurities (sins) can be extracted by the One who takes away the sins of the world.
Pray that God will call many from the Sonar community to extract their sins and become the pure golden vessels of His Holy Spirit He intends them to be.
“The whole city was filled with confusion” (Acts 19:29a KJV). In Paul’s day, an idol maker felt threatened by the gospel because he would lose his livelihood if people turned to Jesus. This is still an issue with the Sonar people of India. The name Sonar comes from sona, meaning gold, and most from that high caste are craftsmen who work with gold. Since there are millions of Hindu gods, Sonars have many opportunities for idol making, though they also use their talents to make fine jewelry.
Idol worship is Satan’s stronghold among the Hindu peoples. What if the idol makers put their faith in Christ? Their conversion would certainly affect many. Turning from idols to Jesus would bring them untold spiritual blessings, but it would also result in physical and emotional challenges. They would lose their jobs and perhaps their family ties.
Out of nearly 7,000,000 in India, less than 50 Sonars have placed their trust in Jesus Christ. These new believers and the ones who minister to them need our prayer support. As more Sonars turn to Christ, they will need to focus their artistic skills on jewelry, etc. They will need to be discipled.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the Sonar people will lay aside the gods they make and worship the God who made them. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill Sonar hearts like molten silver and gold fill a mold. May He conform the Sonars into the image of Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:29).-AK
