John begins the book of Revelation with a clear vision of Christ, the One who is coming soon. In this quotation from the prophet Daniel, John emphasizes the impact the return of Jesus Christ will have upon the peoples of the earth. He says they will mourn. Why? Because, suddenly confronted with their rejection of Him, they will become aware that they deserve the judgment to come. Scripture makes it clear, however, that some from every people will rejoice at Christ’s return. These are the ones who belong to Him, who have heard and believed the gospel and who have submitted their lives to His Lordship.
Pray that many Bhojpuri speakers will be among these believers.
“Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been taken over by mosquitoes and the mafia.” Thus said Manoj Tiwari, a prominent movie actor who is entering politics to help his Bhojpuri people and restore jobs for them. In an April 14, 2009 article in BBC News he said that during the last 15 years politicians have closed sugar mills and fertilizer factories, and Bhojpuri people have had to go to far away Mumbai to find work.
Bhojpuri is a Hindi dialect spoken by 25 million people in western Bihar, parts of Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. This is the region through which the great river Ganges flows. The people have a creative history of music and talent. They have songs for every event in the cycle of life, such as marriage, childbirth, and death.
The majority of Bhojpuri speaking people are Hindu with only a very few identifying as believers in Christ. They are among India’s poorest people and face ongoing hardships of lack of food and work. Only the gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to break through the barriers that have kept the Bhojpuri people bound in both spiritual and physical poverty.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
