Romans 15:20
"It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation."

This verse could be the motto of all frontier mission-minded Christians! Paul was certainly a leader in the early Church both in spiritual and organizational matters. But his heart was always concerned with the frontiers of the gospel, where Christ had not been named. Even with all of his pastoral and leadership duties among new and struggling churches, he pressed on. Of course there are many people who need to be won to Christ here at home and in other cultures that already have a church of their own. And certainly new Christians must be trained well. Yet we must not forget Paul’s example.

Pray that the Lord will foster in our churches this same ambition to preach the gospel where Christ is not named.

Buddhist Khmer in Canada

Cham once again saw himself running from soldiers in the jungle back in 1975, bullets zipping past his head. With a scream he awoke from the nightmare and sat up in bed. Despite the passage of 34 years he still couldn’t forget the harrowing ordeal he’d experienced when he’d fled Cambodia as a young man. Snow softly fell outside his bedroom window in Montreal, Canada. He thought about praying to Buddha but felt it would do no good. Such prayers hadn’t helped him in the past.

Cham is typical of the thousands of Khmer refugees who had fled Pol Pot’s reign of terror between 1975-79. Canada was one of several countries that accepted Khmer asylum seekers. But new homes and new jobs have done little to heal the psychological trauma many Khmer refugees experienced. Many lost their entire families to Pol Pot’s death squads. Others lost family members to bullets or land mines during the fighting that brought Pol Pot’s hard line communists to power in Cambodia in 1975. Less than one percent of the Khmers in Canada believe in Christ.

Pray for God to break the cycle of resentment and revenge that could hold back the Khmer people spiritually. Pray that He will bring about restoration and reconciliation to His Khmer children in Canada, and use them to take this message to Cambodia.-WK
