Romans 9:3
"For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, those of my own race, the people of Israel."

Wait a minute! Isn’t this the same writer who only a few chapters ago assured us of the death that awaits those cut off from Christ? Yes, it is. His love for his own people even led him to wish to suffer their punishment for rejecting Christ. Note, however, that even though Paul loved his fellow Jews that much, he spent his life ministering among the Gentiles!

Father, give us more men and women who-in spite of their love for the Church and all of the needs here at home-will bring the good news to the unreached peoples.

Ahmadiyya Muslims of Canada

In 1889, in Punjab, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad sought Islamic revival. The result was a new sect that is considered heresy by both Sunni and Shi’ite Muslims. They view it as heresy because Ahmad claimed to be a prophet after Mohammed, the “last” of the prophets, according to orthodox Islamic theology. They believe that Ahmad “redefined” jihad as a spiritual rather than a military struggle. Although Islam teaches that Jesus did not die on the cross but of natural causes later, the sect’s web site teaches that Jesus died in Kashmir and that Ahmed appeared in the likeness of Jesus. This is a unique but certainly an erroneous Christology!

Needless to say, Ahmadiyyas have suffered violent persecution by other Muslims for these beliefs. Theirs is a missionary sect, seeking converts among both Muslims and Christians. They maintain several schools of mission, short-term lay training programs, and presses. Their publications are in several languages.

Ahmadiyya Muslims number about 10 million worldwide. There are 10,000 in Canada where they first arrived in the 1930s. There they have three mosques and run a housing project. With 48,000 square feet, their “Beitun Nur” (meaning “house of light”) mosque in Calgary is Canada’s largest mosque. Canada’s prime minister spoke at its opening. They have other mosques in Toronto. Their headquarters are in Maple, Ontario.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will produce in them a yearning to know the true Jesus, and that He will reveal Himself to them as the true Prophet, priest, crucified and risen Savior-Messiah. Pray that their spiritual jihad will end in surrender to Jesus of Nazareth as the light of the world.-TP
